Journey of Songs

A live music and visual art collaboration, to explore our fascination with (and the romance of) journeys in all their forms.

A journey can take you further than just another city. The destination isn’t always the reason for setting off. Perhaps it’s an excuse. Perhaps it was the impetus you needed, but suddenly, you are sorting through your belongings and discovering just what it is that you can’t live without.

Is it the seductive call to leave yourself behind and become the person you’ve always wanted to be? Nobody who knows will be there to watch you play.

Is it the danger? Left to the mercy and the kindness of strangers, who’ll try to speak your language as you make shapes with your hands to explain who you are.

Or is it the joy of being unseen? Blending into the background of an unknown landscape and disappearing in it. You become the Watcher. The ultimate voyeur, when a whole continent is your late night car park. Doors locked, engine running you watch the tail-lights of other peoples’ lives dip and sway, knowing that at any minute you can slip the clutch and take off.

So you pack your cherish-ables carefully into a case. You close the lid. You lock your door, and you step out…

This is where the adventure begins.

What the artists say:

We are a visual artist and a cellist collaborating on a live sound-scape and “visual art as performance” piece. We are looking forward to exploring the potential for interdisciplinary practice across these media.
